2008-2010 (Yes two years...Rock on PSD!)

Name = A.J. = ghostmanblack@gmail.com

Citizenship = USA

Service = USN

Outfit = NSF Security

My_Quest = To provide the old Salts with a young Salts impression

VT_of_a_Swallow = 12.2 feet per second, depending on whether it's African or European.

My_Warstory = Well, I was on "The Rock" for two years, and enjoyed a lot of things. Jakes, The Brit (which was recently renovated), Filmau (the beauty contests and Phillipino/ Mauritian Independence days were great), and "The Island Room" (where Billy makes the best Long Islands i have ever had)  but the one thing i will always remember is "The Fair Grounds".

     Me and about 8 other MA's and a few AC's lived in BEQ 15. 3 of them lived on the ocean side, in rooms stacked on top of each other, on the far end where they only had one neighbor. We all would drink there every friday/saturday/ and duty free night prior to going to the "Clubs". We really hardly made it to the Brit/Island Room/ Jakes, for the pure fact that we would have so much fun on the "Fair Grounds". We dubbed it "The Fair Grounds", because by the time we started, there would be about 30 people there, and when the night was over, you had to wade through all of the stuff that had made it from the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd decks to the ground.

      I miss the BBQ's, The Snorkling, The people, and the food. But most of all I miss the beautiful sunsets and sunrises that happened rain or shine. That and the fact that the Navy gave me a free house to live in on a private island on the beach. If anyone has questions about what all has changed since your last vist i am more than happy to answer!

1977-78, 1984, 2008

Roger Hanthorn [roger-tess@hanthorn.com]

I was stationed in Diego From April 77 To April 78. I was an RM2 and worked in Tech Control at R-Site. I Spent 4 months moored in the the lagoon on the USS Proteus May to Aug 1984. I retired in 1990 and worked for the State of Oregon for 18 years. This job opportunity came up about 8 months ago. I applied and got the job. When I got my clearance back in Feb 08 my boss calls me and says "Pack you bags your going to Diego Garcia." So here I am again back in paradise. Be careful what you say you might just get it. Lots more buildings now and communications with home are easier and being a civilian helps but it is still the same place. I liked it when I was stationed here and in 1984 when I was here. It is 2008 and I still like the place. Some things never change.
